Overview

The Senior Cloud Operations Engineer is responsible for assisting Cloud Operations Team Lead in building, supporting and maintaining global core non-production and production products for all Vix customers on Amazon Web Services. This includes a 24/7 cEMV SaaS Product along with several deployments of Vix backoffice fare collection systems.  This particular role collaborates with other regional and global Cloud Operations engineers and respond to daily operational requests and challenges, as well as becoming a technical advisor to the Cloud Operations engineers. This role will work with different business units to fully support the fast-paced needs and requirements of customer deployments.

Responsibilities

  • Support and Participate in the use of DevOps pipeline and associated practices for CI/CD ( Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery )
  • Test - coded test cases to test fare transit system functionality and deployment methods
  • Release - coded updates to release notes and utilities
  • Deploy - automated deployment of new code to non-production and production environments
  • Operate - respond and improve monitoring and contribute to improvement projects
  • Work with team members to maintain global continuity
  • Work alongside the Team Lead to ensure any potential challenges can be captured and mitigated early in the life cycle
  • Assist Team Lead by:
  • Filtering incoming requests and issues
  • Assessing escalations and providing recommendations and in depth analysis
  • Directing other team members around daily technical matters
  • Becoming one of the key subject matter experts in the team
  • Formulating the best way to alleviate repeat trend issues
  • Providing process & technical recommendations
  • Ensure all works are being recorded in the proper ticket tools and updating relevant documentation
  • Supporting and participate in the FTS ( Follow The Sun ) global on-call model utilizing ITSM and Agile best practices
  • Participate in Information Security training, internal reviews, and adhere to PCI and other applicable security standards
  • Stay current with technology trends and emerging best practices to provide solution proposals to the Team Lead 
  • Build working relationships with Platform Operations and other business units within Vix to support any DevOps and other collaborations that may arise
  • Assist Team Lead role by filling in when required
  • Perform duties in line with Vix Code of Conduct and directions from Cloud Operations Management

Experience


Essential


  • AWS cloud-native management and support
  • Excellent communication skills (documentation and presentation)
  • Qualified in either Microsoft or other technology industry standard certifications
  • Excellent working knowledge Scripting / Command Lines Skillset e.g. Linux/Unix, JSON, Python, Java, Terraform, AWS Cloud Formation,
  • Excellent Working Knowledge of administration of systems:Windows server, RHEL, Ubuntu 16+
  • Good Working knowledge: servers, storage, networking and data center (Backup / redundancies) technologies
  • Ability to multitask and work between conflicting priorities
  • Ability to work well in a global team capacity and being autonomous where required

Desirable


  • Understanding of public transport industry 
  • Amazon Web Services training and/or certification
  • Knowledge around Security practices which includes PCI or other applicable data protection standards
  • Formal training and certification in DevOps practices
  • Bachelor degree IT management or a related discipline is desirable

Essential


  • 5 years Technical operations experience
  • 2 years working in a project-oriented environment
  • 2 years working with cloud technologies
  • 2 years working in ITIL and/or Agile Framework env.
  • Supporting production environments containing user data or sensitive information
  • Served in a Subject Matter Expert role
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team to deliver project outcomes within specified parameters including timeframes and objectives
  • Administration of on-premise and cloud technologies (server, serverless, managed databases, clusters, networking)


Desirable


  • 2 years Performing a DevSecOps role
  • Extensive professional experience using AWS functions
  • Experience with internal audit and assessment
  • Experience with PCI-DSS audits or other applicable data protection standards
  • Have supported global 24/7 operations and being part of rotational roster (after-hours support) where required to support Production environments
